Candye Kane played at Akkurat last
October. I was there and had my camera, but I didn't publish the photos at first. I quick look
made me think that they really weren't that good. I had a closer look today and that made me think
I was wrong. There was a lot of shot, some not so good, but there were a bunch of good ones too. Have
a look here.

That gig at Fasching on May 1 with Blues Caravan, featuring
Roxanne Potvin, Deborah Coleman and
Sue Foley was great! My shots from that event are

February 4 2007
End of the year, and beginning of the next year is always busy at work for me. I have been out shooting, probably a
bit less than usual, but all the same. But I haven't published anything. But I'll get to that eventually. The little
column I write here, which today would be called a blog, isn't updated that much these days. That is something that
will not change much, I'm afraid. I will post here when I have new imgaes and when there are some other radical changes,
and the odd commentary will happen here too, but except for that, that´s it.
This doesn't mean I've stopped writing, quite the opposite, but I now have an external blog instead, about Blues and
Beer and other important things. This blog is in swedish and is available here:
http://papablues.blogg.se. Also, I will eventually move over to some kind of
CMS (Content Management Software) instead of all the handwritten code I currently use. This will hopefull make the
site look nicer (which is long overdue), more responsive and easier to use.
Meanwhile, read my blog and pop by when there are new images, and for the
calendar. The Calendar WILL of course continue to be here at PapaBlues.com by the way, make no mistake, and I update it
as often as I always have!

December 1 2006
Well, it was really a long time ago since I wrote to you all. I have been much to busy in my day to day work,
to write much here. I have added images from the festivals I attended this summer though, and some more stuff too,
so have a look at the images section.
I was really looking forward to the gig att Vasateatern on december 3, and I
was a bit sad when that was cancelled, but there is hope for this to happen at some later time.
Meanwhile, support your local blues artists!

More images from Norrtälje Bluesfest 2006 are now available featuring
BC and the Heartkeys here and
Knock-Out Greg & Blue Weather here.
Also, some cool shots from when Trickbag played at
Akkurat earlier this year are available

these images. Let me know what you think!

September 11 2006
Just a note that there are now map links to most venues in the
Blues Calendar on the site, as a service to
you so you know how to get there, and to know where you when you get there :-)
|
August 21 2006
There are a few new things on the site now, but you might not see all of them yet. I'm working on setting up local
pages for many of the bands, venues, festivals etc featured on this site, and provide crosslinks between them. This requires
some kind of database, but that is already in place and has been there for a few years, but it hasn't been used in this
specific manner yet. I'm now set up many of the festivals like this, including my own review of the festival (assuming I have been there)
and crosslink to photes I have from those festivals. I will add links to gigs at festivals, venues and bands eventually.
I'm also busy setting up more images from this summer, I have added Touch of Blues playing at Midnattsloppet 2006 on August 19 2006 here.
Have fun, and if you want to provide me with information regarding gigs, venues, bands or festivals, or review of them,
drop me and email and I'll add it to the appropriate page (assuming you want me to that is).

Whoa, it´s been a long hot summer, and it aint over yet, but my vacation is over, which means slightly
less music and stuff. Anyway, I´ve had a great summer, so I shouldn't complain, really.
Among the festvals I went to were , and . Also I went to a "Woodstock" style festival i Austria called
Lovely Days which was fun, and had some great bands on, but very little Blues I´ afraid.
I'´ve already published some shots from these festivals, and a new one is available now,
it´s BB & the Blues Shacks at on July 7 2006 that can be seen here.

Have you got a mobile phone with Internet connection? Then you know that
PapaBlues does not work too well on the
small screen of most mobiles. I've tried to fix that, as I now have a cool Nokia
phone myself, an N70. For looking at todays and upcoming blesevents in the coming
month, surf away with your mobile to http://www.papablues.com/mobile/n70,
which I have tested with my N70, but should work better than the normal calendar page on most mobile phones.
If you have a particular phone that you want to have support for, and for which the above page doesn´t work,
let me know and I'll fix it.

January 4 2006
I'm finally getting my act together. A lot of images were sadly lost last year, but now it's a new
year, so I'll try to move on. I'll publish the images I managed to salvage from last year, and I
haven't given up on salvaging more of them. But I'll try to not have this stopping me from shooting
more, or publishing new images anymore. It was a long long time since new images were posted here, but
there are some from the first gig I went at this year, with Big T & the Blazers when
they played at Big Ben, available
here.
There are some new computers lined up here real soon, and a new router that will speed things up
a bit. Also, I'm getting even more backup equipment, this time a tape-unit, to back up my already
mirrored disks, so that the disaster of last year will not happen again.
|
December 23 2005
It's been a long time since I wrote to you last. And there has been a long time since I posted any images.
Well, this has been a trying fall, I can tell you that! Few things has been going my way, but they seem to be improving now.
I hope to get some time to post images from Mönsterås during the weekends, and possibly some from
Åmål also.
In keeping with the good news, there is a new and seemingly active blues society that is about to start here
in the area around Stockholm. It's in Åkers Styckebruk that this is happening, and it should come as
no surprise that it's the guys of Little Wolter & Mean Bluesmachine
that is involved here. It's early days yet, but a follow up to last years Bluesfestival in planned, I'm told. Let's
support this society, and have a look at their site at Bluesound.
|
September 25 2005
Sad news! Have you wondered what happened to the images fromMönsterås, Åmål,
Göteborgs Bluesparty or the Bluesfestival in Norrtälje this year? I showed you some of it,
but the rest? I did promise more of it? I'm afraid this might not happen. I've had a serious hard-drive crash,
two drives went to see it's maker. One first, and in the midst of recovering lost data from that, the
drive I was recovering to went dead too. They were both Western Digital WD2000 drives. I was warned
about these drives once, but they worked fine, up to now that is.
I have got some software that I use to recovers some data from these drives, but frankly, there is not
much left. Of over 5000 shots this summer, a few hundred remain. I'm too devastated so far to go through
the left images to see if they are any good, and where they come from.
What this means is that there will be a delay until there are any new images to see here. I need to
get a new machine up and running, this time a proper box with ample cooling and RAIDed disks, none of
them being WD disks.
Stay tuned for more news, I'll be up and running again in a few weeks or so.

August 28 2005
Some images from this years great event at Norrtälje Bluesfestival
can be seen here< featuring Danny Kane and
here with Dog Jay.

August 14 2005
I've been gone for the most part of July, shooting cars, weird things and of course Blues Festivals.
I've been asked for copies of shots from those festivals, and well, there were a few taken, several
thousand to be exact so to speak. I've now spent a day just organizing most of then, and have processed the
first set for viewing here. It's
Jenny and the Bluebeans when they appeared at
Göteborgs Blueparty. There are more shots coming
from the Bluesparty, which was a very nice experience by the way, a very neat Blues festival, if you ask me.
|
June 12 2005
I visited the Blues festival in Mönsterås a couple of weekends ago. Nothing sensational this year,
but some pretty good acts. Thornetta Davis was one of the best, and I have some
images from that gig. There are more images coming. The more
disappointing part of this festival this year was the location, which really was pretty boring, although the
sound was OK, a problem that has haunted this festival some other years.
The idea with food and drink tickets really felt like a pretty daft idea and the food in general was
probably at an all time low, I mean a wrap is OK, but the meat should be hot. Or is it just me? I don't think so,
as it seemed that the nearby burgerstand was doing pretty good business. The beer was nothing to complain
about though, not any really good stuff, but better than what you usually get at festivals.
If you go to Mönsterås and want to eat by the way, don't try their local Pizzeria (Mönsterås
Pizza). This was teriible, and I apparently did the mistake of ordering the "wrong" type of food, and was subsequently
thrown out. I was 100% sober at the time BTW (this was at lunchtime), and the eastablishment in question did not
serve any alcohol. I just wanted a Kebab for gods sake! (Yes, I payed for it, and after the debacle I got my
money back). Some weird people work in restaurants these days, apparently. So my best advise it to keep
out of this place (the pizza place that is). The best food I got in those two days was at the burgerstand, which says
something about the food quality here.
I'll add some more images eventually, and there were some good gigs here, like the Sven Zetterberg trio thing.
Tony Joe White is probably very good, but really my cup of tea. Lazy Lester was better than expected, and seeing
Chicacgo Express again was a treat. More stuff to some here, so stay tuned!
|
|
May 15 2005
More stuff to see this time! Great Blue Hammer at their
10 year celebration at Akkurat, and of course I was there taking
shots, see them here.
|
|
May 8 2005
Tow new sets of cool images are now available here, Roffe Wikström
at Mosebacke here, and
NOW! featuring Clas Yngström and
Pierre Swärd available
here.
|
February 27 2005
More images to enjoy, first we got Mercury Bluesband from
begining of February at a gig at Wirströms available for
viewing here.
Also, a big set of images from Akkurat where the
great dudes in Knock-Out Greg & Blue Weather were playing last sunday. That was one great gig,
see the images here.
I got some bad news too, by the way. The rather good music place of Nalenhere in Stockholm is still way, way, WAY below acceptable standard when it comes to beers. I've point this
out before, and nowadays it´s more true than ever. Even that crap lager (which is the only beer available,
no alternatives on tap, and no bottles AT ALL!) tasted like, well, sh*t. Something which I pointed out to them,
and the reply was "You don't have to but it!". I guess they don´t want me to! I certainly will go there again
and listen to some good music, but NO WAY will I ever get a single beer, or anything else for that matter, from
their bar. Get your drinks somewhere else! Why not Akkurat for
example. Great selection and quality is below none. Say none! Several Real Ales are always available, and so
is several Cascade loaded american microbrew beers (on bottle though), as well as loads of Belgian Lambics.

January 9 2005
Today, there is a radical new thing here on PapaBlues.com: a Blues forum
for Stockholm blues. This is still under testing, and a few things are missing, among them a proper english look-and-feel.
You can register and run in English, but really, this is intended to be in Swedish. But I'll make the english version a bit
better soon. Just now, it's a bit messy.
So join the PapaBlues forum to get in touch with other Blues folks
here in Stockholm! And registration for using the forum is free, of course!
|
January 2 2005
Happy new year to you all!
Two new sets of images are now available, there are a set of

The remake from last week seems to work OK, so I've now added a new set of images
here of great Jenny Boman
and her Blue Beans when they played at Akkurat
last sunday. Tomorrow, August 22, you can see Tuff Enuff
in action at Akkurat!
|
August 15 2004
As you have all seen, there has been less updating to the site lately, and above all,
mush less news here. This is mainly because of me having so much work elsewhere, but also
becase I have redone a lot on the site. And you ask yourself. "Redone? I don't see any
changes?". Well, there hasn't been any visual changes, but the underlyng technology has
changed a fair bit.
Hopefully, this will change now. Managing the site has now become much MUCH easier. I have
loads of photos to take care of and show on the site, so stay tuned!
/Karlsson

|
January 2 2004
Finally, after a lot of fuzz, the site is up again, having been moved to a new location.
It will take a while to stabilize things, but in general, it should be available most of the time.
Soon now, there will be a major restructuring of things. I'll let you all know when that is
about to happen, so stay tuned!
|
|
December 5 2003
I'm afraid that there are changes coming up. This site is about to move, and will be down for
a week or two while I move the server and the network. The reason for all this is that I'll be
moving myself, just a few blocks, but still moving, and getting the network hooked up again
takes a while. I'm sorry for this, but there is little I can do about it. But I'll be back again
around christmas or so. And there are more changes coming, the network will be faster eventually,
quite significantly so, and there will be more updates and images, once the design of a
database that will hold all this together is finished.

November 3 2003
I had one of my PC's crashing by some really crappy software. I bought myself a DVD-burner,
and it was an OEM packaging, i.e. no software. I had planned to get the latest and greatest
version of Nero, but that was out of stock, so I got Easy CD & DVD Creator from Roxio
instead, and got Roxio VideoWave as an added bonus.
Well, none of the two packages worked as they said, both had really bad user interfaces and
all that. And ECDC didn't support my burner anyway it seemed, so I uninstalled it. Or rather,
I tried to uninstall it. It left bits and pieces here and there, and did something to the
registry that made PC unable to shut down properly. I ended up reinstalling Windows 2000.
Friends, if you need to burn DVD's, whatever you do, don't get the Roxio stuff. It is guaranteed
to make your life miserable, as it did mine (for a while at least).

September 29 2003
New York-based harminoca player Speedo Jones has visited us here in Stockholm
this month, some images from a gig with Big Walker
can be seen here.

September 26 2003
Records? And lots of them? Yes, it's at "Solnahallen" in Solna north of Stockholm,
the biggest record fair in Sweden, 600 meters of records for sale!
|
|
September 21 2003
We here in Stockholm can be proud. If you ever listen in to
Electric Blues Radio
which has some pretty cool music stations, at the top of the
"Indepentent Blues Radio" list is noone else than
Tommy Cougar.
|
|
September 10 2003
Another set of shots from Skeppsbar
is now available, this time it´s Night Train Express
appearing here.
|
|
September 9 2003
Have a look at the first shots from Skeppsbar
featuring Big Walker here.
Come down to Skeppsbar some saturday and
listen to some great blues music, have a few beers and enjoy this really nice place! And I´m not
payed to say this!
|
|
August 19 2003
I've finally taken care of the images from the Bluesfestival in
Norrtälje. Have a look at them here.
And don't miss the fact that Stockholm Blues Society now
has a new and much better stage for their gigs. It's at
Skeppsbar in Gamla Stan.
Pop by on a saturday and have a look. It's downstairs in the bar by the way. Good sound
and decent beers, and some great blues music, what more do you want?
|
|
August 11 2003
Well, vacation time is over. I have been shooting a bit this summer, and the results
will appear here eventually. Meanwhile,
here are
some shots of Omar and the Howlers
when they played at Akkurat last night.
|
|
July 4 2003
In Södertälje on August 2 is the traditional Blues Pic-nic. Time is 1PM til midnight, and location is
as usual on Torekällsberget. From 1PM to 4PM there is open stage, and then we see:
|
|
May 27 2003
Now it's the time for Blues Festivals. Among
them are the one in Mönsterås, which
is in just a few days, featuring Little George Sueref,
Sven Zetterberg Blues Band and more.
Later in the summer, mid July, we have the big festival in Åmål
with Homesick Mac, Lexie Blues Band and others.
And then by the end of July, one of my personal favourites among swedish blues festivals,
Norrtälje Bluesfest, this year
featuring Otis Grand,
Clas Yngström,
Monaco Bluesband and much, much more.
|
|
May 11 2003
Tomorrow, May 12, and the day after, May 13, you can see one of the more unusual bands on
the swedish blues-scene, Crawfish cook on
Big Ben. This big band (9 members) plays
a kind of Swamp-blues that is not often heard around here. And they are not only unusual,
they are a great band too. And as usual, there is no covercharge at
Big Ben...
If you go there, and want to support the blues, get your beers downstairs, where the
music is. This way they get to know that you have come for the music, so we can continue
to get great music at this great place.
|
|
May 8 2003
If you didn't follow my advice, and went to the release party for the new CD from
Trickbag, then you can see some images
here.
|
|
May 7 2003
Don't miss Trickbag at
Stampen tonite. They are releasing their new CD...
And saturday, the last Nattsudd for this season at least, on Nalen,
this time featuring the nothing less than the Slaptones. Svante
plays old records and videos as usual. And if you haven't been at Nalen recently, go there now, they have a
beautiful setting there... Real nice...
|
|
May 4 2003
As you have seen, there has been less updates than usually, recently. And the site has been hard to reach
sometimes too. This is all related to the same problem, I've had some serious hardware problems with
my webserver. It was rather old, and has now been retired, and a new (or rather, newer) machine has been
put in it's place. For those of you who might be asking what it is, it's a
DELL machine running RedHat Linux. Hopefully
I will now have some time for the more important images and stuff.
Cheers
/Karlsson

April 23 2003
There are some images of Lexie Bluesband and

|
April 15 2003
It's easterweek now, and there is some cool Blues stuff going on. To begin with,
Big Ben presents Bill Örström with
Bill going stromg on Wednesday April 16 nd Thursday April 17,
then it's Bluestime at Fasching on Sunday April 20
with Tuff Enuff,
Lexie Bluesband and
Sam Rocket and his Blues Prisoners.
On another note, for you software developers out there. If you want to access EXIF content in
image files, maybe you have been looking for an EXIF API. Well then, look no further,
Papa Blues has got you fixed up! Download the full kit, including DLL's, sample code,
documentation and all here.
|
|
April 8 2003
All work and no fun. Yepp, it's been busy lately. Tomorrow I plan to go see Bill Örström with
Kenny Håkansson at Big Ben at least. I hope I get to do some
more shooting also, my camera needs some exercise. I have some images that I'm process any day soon now, so stay
tuned, folks.

March 26 2003
DON´T MISS THIS!!
on Fasching this sunday March 30th. Arrangements by
Stockholm Blue Society, and extra support provided by
Trick Bag.
|
March 22 2003
For those of you who use, or would like to use, my EXIF Viewer application, that
allows you to view EXIF data in your digital camera images, there is now a new version out.
I know this has little to do with the Blues, but it DOES have to do with photography, so I
think it's OK. If you use a digital camera, but don't know what EXIF is, well then i think
you should try EXIF Viewer.
It's free to download, use and register. Yepp, it's true, registration is free!
So what is EXIF then, you ask? EXIF is the format that nearly all digital cameras use to embed information
about the images that are shot with the camera, inside the imagefile itself. So what info can you find
there? Well, to be frank with you, more than you could possibly want! Everything from dates and times,
F-numbers and Exposure times, down to software versions and stuff like that. But this is for the
images coming from the camera, once you edit an image, this data is lost, which is why I always save my
original images, the way they come from teh camera. Any editing is done on copies.
But as I said, download it and check it out!
|
|
March 12 2003
As you can see, there are now a few advertisements on this page. Not too much, but one or two.
If you plan to buy CDs or to buy photographic equipment, or is just surfing around for that type of
thing, then please use my links. Check out
Scandinavian photo for photographic
stuff and
CDON for CDs.
It will not cost you anything, but you support this site.
|
March 11 2003
March 10 and 11 (tonight) Clas Yngström, swedish Hendrix guitarist, play at
Fasching here in Stockholm. And what might THAT
look like, you ask? Well, look no further than this
and this
.

March 3 2003
One of my favourite Blues artists in Sweden is the winner of the Janne Rosenqusit prize this
year. It´s no other than Mr Bo,
famous from Mr Bo & the Nitecats and his current band,
Mr Bo & the Voodooers.
|
|
February 21 2003
Legendary Svante Grundberg together with Gert Palmcrantz transmits Blues, Rock, Jazz and a
lot of other weird music stuff on the air every wednesday and thursday between 4 and 6 pm on
FM 97.8 (Radio Lidingö) here in Stockholm.
All in the well-known spirit of the classic TV-show Nattsudd.
Not really a Bluesband, but who can resist Dr Åke. He plays at
Big Ben now and then. Last time I saw him was about two months ago,
have a look at some images from that session here.
|
|
February 20 2003
Some new images are available now, it´s from when
Jenny & the Bluebeans
played at Broder Tuck
on Decemeber 21st last year. See the images
here. Also, there is a new
Bluesband on the bands page. It's
Noname Combo from Stallarholmen, not too far from
Stockholm that now has proper webpage.
|
|
February 18 2003
Long time no see, folks! I've been busy at work lately, and I have to admit to have neglected this site,
and sadly my photografhing activities too, to a certain extent. Sad but true. I'll try to keep it up better
in the future. I've added images from Trettondagsblues at Fasching on
January 5 here, so there are some news here at least.
|
January 26 2003
There is going to be some Blues on the radio here in Sweden later this year. In march, swedish radio
channel P2 will have 3 programs about the american blues producer and
historian Sam Charters. The series starts on March 10 and is produced by Tomas Blom.
You can read the pressrelease (in Swedish) about these programs here.
|
|
January 5 2003
A new year is here, and I have to admit I'v been less active in producing any new images. I had the
idea to do thisover the weekends, but instead I've been busy with a new version of my
EXIF Viewer software package. And it's still
not ready. The release, 1.2, will be feature packed, as well as having several bugs cleaned away,
and a bunch of memory leaks fixed. I think you´ll like it.
I have now updated the calendar a
fair bit for the new year. If you lack some gig in there, that should be there, let me know, keep
those gig tips coming, bands, I do this for free you know! I typically only publish gigs in the
Stockholm area, but I DO make exceptions, when there is a reason for it.
|
|
December 9 2002
Did you go on the Blues at Sea cruise?
Not? Then you missed something. You did? Well, I have a load of images for you. You don't remember? Well,
then you probably DID go. Figure out for yourself by having a look at the first set of images from those
24 hours packed with The Blues here.
But more is coming in a day or two... So stay tuned in to
Papa Blues.
|
|
December 8 2002
I've added some images of a band that I've never photographed before,
Thomas Arnesen Blues Band that I shot
recently at Big Ben, and they can be
seen here
Also, there are some images from the gig with
Otis Grand with
Al Tehler
at Nalen
here in Stockholm. I'll have some more images from this gig eventually, but for now
this is what is available.
On another note... Do you want the music at Big Ben
to keep on. They have live music every day of the week right now, that's amazing, is't it!
Well go there and support your local blues and other live bands. And when you get there...
Please please please, buy your drinks in the downstairs bar! That's how they know how much
you appreciate the music... The drinks being sold in the upstairs bar doesn't support the
music at all, the one being sold downstairs tell them how much we appreciate the music.

Hope you liked EXIF Viewer, but I admit it was a 1.0 version and had it's issues. I missing important
feature was the ability to refresh the directory tree. This has now been fixed in the all-new version 1.1
available for download PapaBlues software.
EXIF Viewer now also contains the ability to count the number of selected files in directory view,
as well as several smaller bugfixes. And I urge you to pleeeease register. This is a great help and
encouragement for me, and it is free. Registration is done
here.

December 1 2002
As a christmas gift to all you out there from your own PapaBlues. If you have a digital camera,
did you know that in the JPEG-files you get from it (which is the most common format), there is
a lot of information hidden in what is known as "EXIF Format"? So how can you see that information?
Some image editing program allow you to see it (PhotoShop and PhotoShop Elements do that), but what
if you wanted to find that specific image shot with a flash on that specific date with ISO 400 using
the manual exposure program? You have to open each and every image and guess your way. Or that is,
until "EXIF Viewer" came around. "Exif Viewer" is an exclusive PapaBlues software release that you
can download for free! Yes, it's completely free, but you can register it if you want. But guess what?
Registration is free too!
Find "EXIF Viewer" on the
PapaBlues software. I'd be happy if
you register it also. And as I wrote above, registration is free.

Did you miss Junior Watson with
Knock-Out Greg & Blue Weather at
Fasching last sunday? Then you can always view my images
from that gig here.
And there is another chance to this this magnificent combo at the Blues at Sea boat that
sets off tomorrow. See Blues at Sea.
|
|
November 10 2002
There are now some more images here, this time it´s that excellent band
Snibb
(formerly called Mescaleros) that got in front of my lens. See the images
here.
|
November 9 2002
There is some good blues at Fasching tomorrow, when
Junior Watson appears with
Knock-Out Greg & Blue Weather. Be sure to be there
around 8.
And next weekend, when you think you've had enough. Just waiting for the sunday to end and turn into
just another boring monday, the Bluesboat sets off. Many great bands, lots of people and, above all,
lots of fun. See Blues at Sea for
all the details on this great fun event.
|
October 11 2002
NOTE Tonight at Stacken, which is located
around the corner from Nalen, the Band playing is
Bluebirds and Nothing else. Some newspapers
and even Allt om Stockholm got it all wrong,
what I tell you here is the correct information, the band playing is
Bluebirds. And that is one excellent band,
so don´t you dare miss it! Gigtime: 21:30.
There will be Blues every friday at Stacken the rest of
the year. See the full program here.

October 07 2002
Psycedelia is back! Big Time! Went to Big Ben to see
Kenny Håkanssons Psycedelic Dream Band last night. With such a name, this better be good.
And it is, I've seen this band before, and well, not so much Blues (some though, but in a psycedelic way),
but excellent music all the same. I took some photos, which I have still to process. But when I woke up
this morning, this image of Kenny Håkansson
was there. Don't ask me where it came from :-)
Kenny plays there tonight also. The band consists of himself, Bjön Lundkvist on bass, Kjell Gustavsson on
drums, and noone less than Brynn Settles of keyboards. Excellent stuff.
Tomorrow night it's Bluestime at Big Ben, with
B.C. & the Heartkeys, excellent 60's style bluesmusic. And this time featuring
Mia Lexie, known from Lexie Bluesband.
And there is more blues later on this week at Big Ben,
with norwegian bluesband Daniel Eriksen and the Blue Devils
on wednesday. Great music, I can tell you that!
|
October 1 2002
There seems to be a rumour going round here in Stockholm that the Bluesclub at Big Ben
is no more. That is completely wrong. What has happened is that what used to be a wednesday club at
Big Ben is now a thursday club at
Gröne Jägaren and that starts this
thursday with Monaco Bluesband.
But there is still music at Big Ben, now every day of the week! And
on wednesdays there is Blues, and often on tuesdays and thursdays too. And this club is now arranged by
noone less than Rockjockey Bernte. So the situation is now that
there is MORE music here on Söder in Stockholm, not less!!
|
September 4 2002
Lexie Bluesband playsed at Big Ben a few weeks back, and there are
a few images from that gig here.
Note that there is a Blues festival thingy in November. This is "Blues at Sea" which is a 24 hour bluescruise
on November 17 (sunday). For more details, have a look at Blues at Sea.
|
September 2 2002
Well, the last musical sunday at Akkurat is over, and what a strange
night it was. A bit like American Grafitti or something like that, the last night the old friends.
On a more positive note, did you know that Thomas Grahn, of Blues Down Town
fame, received the "Åmål Blues Fest Award" at Åmål Blues Fest
this year. Have a look here
|
August 29 2002
Hey folks... Next sunday is the last sunday at Akkurat for a while. After
this date, the place will be closed on sundays. Too bad. On the other hand, there is now live music on every day
of the week, including sundays, at Big Ben, so all hope is not lost.
Talking about Big Ben, the friendly guys in
Bitter Blue played there a few weeks ago, see some of the
images from that gig here.
|
August 8 2002
Next big bluesthing here in Stockholm is probably when Sonny Rhodes
appears with Wentus Blues Band at
Mosebacke on Monday August 19. This gig is arranged by
Stockholm Blues Society.
On a sad note, as many of you have realized, there are less and less places in Stockholm where Live Music can
be found, and even less with Live Blues Music. Akkurat will no longer
have live music on sundays. Lilla Maria has
closed. Bagpiper´s Inn no longer has any live
music (as far as I know, at least), and Fasching is bancrupt (although they
hope to be up and running by September 2002 again). This is sad, and we need to do something about it. My biggest hope
is for Akkurat to start with those great sunday music sessions again, so
let's support them by going there on the few remaining sundays. And there is still some good stuff waiting there, like
Mike Sanchez and
KnockOut Greg & Blue Weather on August 11. You don't know these
guys? Well, you should. Be there or be square. And let´s hope that Fasching
get their act together, and improve on the things that needs improving, and has done so for some time. Better food
and better beers, and beer served properly, thank you very much. The music has always been excellent, no complaints there.

|
July 22 2002
We don´t get many blesfestivals around Stockholm. This year, I was at the festival in Åmål, but for
just one day. I've got some images to show soon. The Bluesfestival that is closest to Stockholm is the one in Norrtälje,
which happens next saturdat (July 27), don't miss that, many really good bands are on, and it's really nicely set festival too.
See more about the festival in Norrtälje here.
|
July 6 2002
There has been few updates lately. This doesn´t mean I´ve stopped taking photographs, but I
haven´t had the time to process them. I hope to get some time now, though. I´ have put some images
of BaBa Blues that was shot at Big Ben here on
Söder a few weeks ago here.
And by the way, don´t miss the Blues Festival in Norrtälje on July 27, see
here for more details, there will be some great bands
playing there...
On a sad note, the #1 live music place here on Söder in Stockholm, Akkurat
is planning to close on sundays. No more excellent sunday music at Akkurat then. This is very sad, this is such a
great place, with great music... Really too bad. Last gig is supposed to be September 1. Go there, have a few beers
and show them support, and maybe they´ll change their minds. And by the way, this sunday (July 7)
Blue Hammer is appearing on stage.
Don´t you dare miss this excellent band!
|
June 2 2002
For all of you who didn't go to see Doug Jay at
Fasching on May 31, there are some images
here. It's a shame more of you didn't show up,
as this was an excellent gig.
Speaking of something else, I went to Restaurangernas Dag in Kungsträdgården
here in Stockholm the other day. The whole idea behind this thing is a show off for Stockholm
restaurants and their food, at reasonable prices. A pretty good idea, but completely let down by the
way they handle BEER at this thing. And this is the same way it's being handled on all
major events in Kungsträdgården. What they do is they have a strictly enforced monopoly
of Pripps beer here. Nothing particularly wrong with Pripps, it's probably no worse than any other
mass-produced lager beer, and they have a few premium brews too (the 1812 for example) which is
not bad at all. But the whole idea of a monopoly sux. Will McWhatever have a food-monopoly next year?
I guess that in some peoples minds, this
type of monopoly is a benefit to the brewer or to the festival. Well, I'm going to do MY best to make sure
that that doesn't happen, and I encourage you to do the same. For the rest of this year, there will
be no Pripps beer running down MY throat! And in particular NOT if I go to one of the festivals in
Kungsträdgården.
And really, guys. What type of impression does this give the beer drinking public. Well to me it sounds like
Pripps really doesn't think their beer is anygood themselves, I mean, if it was, why would they have
to get this monopoly. A friend of mine brought some decent beer with him, and yes, you guess it, some
beer-gestapo guard walked up to us and told us we were not allowed to drink it there at the festival!
Hey, man! This really, I mean REALLY sux!!! Apparently, the Pripps beer is now so incredibly BAD so to get
ANYONE at all to drink it they have to hire guards to make sure than no other brew is consumed. I really cannot think
of any other reason. And by the way, the guard was really pretty much OK, but this job was probably the weirdest
ever.
And all this is a shame, because the festivals in Kungsträdgården are usually really nice, with a
nice environment, good music and all that. But this really upsets me...

|
May 18 2002
I've got some sad news for y'all. Anders Gutke, you once formed Telge Blues with Sven Zetterberg
has died. I never got a chance to take any photos of Anders, I'm afraid, and now it's obviously too late.
|
May 12 2002
Bilderna från Åsas och Mattias Bröllop kan ses här.
Yeah, I know, this was in swedish, just for once. And the link takes you to a page with wedding images, nothing to
do with Blues, so don't worry. And it wasn't MY wedding, so don't worry, this site will continue to be as active as ever...
|
|
May 9 2002
More images, this time it's Linus when he played at Big Ben with a special
appearance of Jan Gerfast. These
pictures can be seen here.
|
May 4 2002
I've been home sick a few days, and have been feeling rather awful. I went to see Koko Taylor the other day,
despite this, and it was a lot better than I expected, considering her age. And the band was excellent. Great stuff.
I didn't bring the camera, as I wasn't sure if it was allowed to take photos, and I didn't want to leave the camera
in the car.
Last weekend I was in Denmark, in beautiful Silkeborg on Jylland to visit
Silkeborg International Blues Festival
that featured such great artists as Alan Haynes and
Guy Forsyth. The festival was on for two day, but we
were only there on the friday (the first day). I had the camera with me, and some images turned out OK, which can be seen
here. And Blues folks out there, lets get
Guy Forsyth to Stockholm. He has never played in
Sweden, which is a shame. He is really great...
|
|
April 23 2002
I finally got around to process some images of Johnny Blue Orcestra
when they played at Kungssvanen, have a look
here. And by the way, these sessions at
Kungssvanen are pretty cool, usually really
good dancers, good music and some fun old movies, all supervised by Svante Grundberg.
|
|
April 20 2002
Just a short notice to y'all that my images from when Omar & the Howlers
played at Akkurat last sunday (April 14) are
available here. I'm still getting used to my new
camera, which is why so few of the images taken really turns out OK. But I'm getting better...
|
April 19 2002
The #1 Chicago Blues band here in Stockholm is, I guess, Blues Down Town,
and they'll be playing on both of the two big Blues festivals here in Sweden
this year, the one in Mönsterås on May 31, and on the one in
Åmål. That's pretty impressive, but on the other hand, this
is a pretty impressive band. They've been around for ages and deserve a break!
Do you read Internet World? If you do, the latest and greatest issue, 4 of 2002,
has a review of the same site you look at right now, getting a score of 8 out of 10. Not bad!
We now have 2 reguilar Blues jams here in Stockholm. On saturdays there is the "old" Stampens Bluesjam.
And on Wednesdays there is now a Bluesjam in Solna, on Solna Krog, so pop by and have some fun on that lazy wednesday.
|
|
April 18 2002
Don't forget the releaseparty for Knock-out Greg and Blue Weather's new
CD at Akkurat on Sunday April 28. No cover charge. The party starts at 6.
|
April 15 2002
Do
these
guys really WORK at Akkurat? Well, sometimes I doubt it...
Speaking of Akkurat, here are some images coming up from Omar & the Howlers gig at Akkurat yesterday in a day or two...
|
|
April 14 2002
So, you may ask, what goes REALLY on at Bagpipers? This place that is hardle EVERY advertised, located on
Rörstransgatan in Stockholm. Well, there is good music every thursday and saturday. Just look at what
happened yesterday when Trickbag
played there.
|
|
April 13 2002
Have you been to the Bluesjam at Stampen? It's there every saturday, and it's really packed. See some images from last
saturday here. Be there or be square.
|
April 7 2002
Every time you access this site, like right now, have you ever wondered what REALLY happens, and who does the job? Well here's the
scoop. The webserver is in my kitchen, and internally (i.e. in my flat) it is called "homer". All my machines has names from "The Simpsons".
Do you wonder what "Homer" the machine looks like? The answer is, like
, where is stands right next to my fridge. What you
see here are actually 2 machines, Homer is the lower one. The on on top is a really old Sparc-station 5 running Linux, called "Selma".
Homer is an Ultra Sparc-5 running Solaris.

|
April 5 2002
I've updated the Blues Festivals page a bit, and have made some additions.
|
April 1 2002
The Blues Calendar is updated quite a bit, with a lot of new gigs. If know
of a gig in Stockholm that isn't there, let me know.
I've made the loading of the first page on this site a bit faster, by moving all news from 2001 to a separate page. There is a
link to those news from the past at the bottom of this page.
|
March 28 2002
Finally there are some more images, this time it's Johan Wallin Bluesband that played at Akkurat
last sunday (March 24). The images can be seen here.
Also, I've gat a few images of Ebba when she played at Edelweiss in Solna
here. Ebba is an entertainer and musician, and she plays a lot of different stuff, although
this particular nite Blues wasn't on the agenda, sometimes it is.
|
March 24 2002
I know you're getting booooored with me and my camera business. But this really IS important (to me). Anyway, it will stop real soon,
I've ordered an Olympus E-10, and I've included some extra bits and pieces. I'll have it in a week or so, and I'm really excited. Fot you
digital camera dudes out there, the kit includes the B30 LiPo grip, the Metz MZ-54 flash, the Metz-Oly connection thingy (SCA3202) and an
omnibounce. This flash is one of the few full-TTL alternatives to Olympus own flash offering (the FL-40). The Metz is a better flash,
has more features and is less expensive than the Olympus one.
Now, enough of that technical mumbo-jumbo, can we have some B-L-U-E-S please!!! Yeah, you sure can! If you happen to live in
Solna, Brian Kramer Band will be playing and jamin´ at The Upstaris Club
at Solna Krog every Wednesday in April and May, starting April 10. Have a look in my Blues Calendar
for all the cool details. Gigtime is 20:00 - 23:00.
And what about that other important ingedient in Live that start with a B (there is a total of 4, Blues is #1)? And is it really... Red???
Well ask Stene at Akkurat.
If he says it is, then that is probably the case...
|
March 17 2002
Think it's been quiet lately? Well it has! I've been away for a while, and I've had some other things to attend to. I have been taking photographs,
but I haven't published mush. But it will come. And I DO keep the Blues Calendar updated
pretty well.
On the camera front, I'm still sticking with the faithful Nikon 990, but the Oly is planned within a week or so.
|
March 1 2002
Tonite tou can listen to BC & the Heartkeys at Broder Tuck, and at Wirströms
you can listen to Eric's Bluesband. Tomorrow, Blues Addition is playing at
Broder Tuck, and on Sunday Hi Tones with Little Stevie plays at Akkurat. And there is more than this
going in, have a look in the Blues Calendar.
I know I've been bugging you with this for a while, but my search for a new Digital Camera seems to have come to an end. The one I want is the
Olympus E-10, with extra battery pack and a flash. This kit turns out rather expensive, but not more so than my company can afford it. So next
weekend I hope to be up and running with this new gadget. I will not retire the faitful Nikon CP990 yet, though, the Olympus is a fair bit
larger than the Nikon.
This weekend I plan to do some more image processing, and I've also started to think about revising the look and feel of the site. If nothing else,
I'll make it look better on screens with less resolution than I have. I know this is a problem.
|
|
February 26 2002
Late breaking news! The winner of the "Janne Rosenqvist prize" is Carl-Magnus Engström, of
Mönsterås Bluesband fame! He'll be receiving the
prize at a ceremony at Fasching on March 10.
|
|
February 23 2002
Just a reminder. If you need some fun tomorrow (Sunday 24th) night, there is no better place than Akkurat
where Moose Brothers will be playing. This band is both a great "Blues Brothers" show, as well as providing excellent music in the same style. Don't miss
this fun gig.
|
|
February 18 2002
Have you been down at the Blues-gigs at Bagpipers, a.k.a. The Basement yet? Some good
bands has played there, and the place is really nice and cozy. A good gig-club I'd say. Problem is that this place refuses to advertise, or to
tell anyone what is going on. They won´t even tell me, even when asked! And this I'd do for free for them? Very weird. The gigs I know about that
is coming up there, together with any other gigs I know about, is posted in my Blues Calendar.
|
February 13 2002
Wasn't Mike Sanchez with Knock-Out Greg & Blue Weather
at Akkurat last sunday just excellent! Whoa! I took some shots there, but they are not ready for
prime time yet. Meanwhile have a look at my images from when they played at Akkurat on November 18 here.
If you just can't wait, have a look at the images taken by Mika Partanen on his site
here. I'll have my own images ready for viewing real soon.
|
|
January 24 2002
Have a look at my Images from when Anders Lewéns Knock-Out Kings played at Stampen
in December last year here. These images were a bit late, and I have some more images that
are just as late to process, but stay tuned, you just can't wait too long for a good thing. And if you don't want to wait, don't miss
Blues Lee Band at Broder Tuck (Götgatan 85 here in Stockholm) tomorrow
night.
|
|
January 23 2002
Don't miss the Blues Calendar. And if you know about gigs that are not in
the Calendar, let me know and I'll fix that. Next wednesday, January 30, is the first night for Claes Yngström's
"Blå Vardag" at Fasching. First band to play is "Mama Blues" with Claes himself, and two
weeks after that, Thursday February 14, Bluebirds will be entertaining you.
|
|
January 22 2002
Yo dudes and dudettes! Don't miss Blues Lee Band at
Broder Tuck on Götgatan 85 this friday (January 25). Lot's of fun with this great band, and I've said it
before, be there or be square!
|
January 21 2002
The clubscene here in Stockholm is growing, at least in some respects. Favourite Rockjockey
Bernte, known from Akkurat on Sundays and from the good old days at
Göta Källare, is back with a new club, this time at Big Ben. He'll be running a serious rock, pop, blues,
rockabilly etc. club on mondays and tuesdays, starting January 28. He has the following bands booked:
- January 28 - Halkans Twang-Gang
- January 29 - Carl Eiwar Sect
- February 4 - Intruders
- February 5 - Kenny Håkanssons Psychedelic Dream Band
- February 11 - Magnus Lindberg
- February 12 - Andy & the Edsels
- February 18 - Linus & the Windicators
- February 19 - Hi-tones
This is a good mix of good bands, and this is in addition to the Blues on wednesdays at Big Ben. So get into the groove and
get on down to Big Ben on mondays, tuesdays and wednesdays.
Talking about Big Ben, have look at my first images from there, it's Blue Hammer,
and the images are here, some of which turned out pretty cool.
|
January 16 2002
Don't forget to get down to Broder Tuck on Götgatan 85 this friday (January 18), where
Crawfish Cook will enrich your life :-)
I've been terribly busy in the office lately, but for you waiting for more images, they're on the way. I'm way way behind now, but I
hope that I'll be able to catch up a bit the upcoming weekend.
|
|
January 12 2002
Last night I was at Lilla Maria where Kenny Håkansson
was supposed to be playing. He wasn't, and that is no surprise, really. It's not Kenny´s fault, but Lilla Maria tends to announce gigs that
never happens and was never supposed to happen. The music at Lilla Maria is usually pretty good, but if you go there to see a specific announced band,
check that this band really IS playing before you pay the cover charge,
|
|
January 11 2002
Great news, folks! I'm promoting two great concerts at "Broder Tuck" on Götgatan 85 here in Stockholm in January. Next friday,
the 18th of January you'll see the biggest band so far at Tucken, Crawfish Cook
plays New Orleans Blues stuff. This big, fun band featuring 9 members (Yikes!), among them Anders "Niten" Karlsson, will get you going big-time, I'm really looking
forward to this gig!
And the friday after that, the 25th of
January one of the bands that made quite a success when they played at Tucken last fall,
Blues Lee Band from Köping and Arboga will be on stage with some hard-rocking
Blues. This is a band that really deserves your attention!
You want blues tonite? OK, this is the deal:
Note the new Blues Calendar in the menu. This is a selection of Blues gigs that I
know of, and I don't aim to have the best Stockholm Blues calendar on the net, that is still the one produced by
Stockholm Blues Society.
|
|
January 10 2002
There has been a few complaints about the readability of the site, in particular the fields with the dark gray background. I've now made
a change from using GRAY to the lighter coloured SILVER. Let me know if this is better. This has so far only been implemented on the
"Home" page. If there are no complaints about this, I'll implement it on all pages on the site. Let me
know what you think.
|
January 6 2002
The program for wednesdays at "Big Ben" at Folkungagatan here in Stockholm is fixed through February nw. It looks like this:
At Stampen here in Stockholm, there is a Bluesjam every saturday afternoon. And every monday
there is Blues. The upcomings shows are:
- January 7 - Blues Devils from Norway, featuring Daniel Eriksen on Slide.
- January 14 - Brian Kramer Band.
- January 21 - Sture Elldin Bluesband - with Sture Elldin, one of the great harmonica players.
- January 28 - Touch of Blues.
There has been some additions to the festivals page. Have a look. If you know of
any festvals that are missing from this page, let me know and I'll add them.
